I am allergic to meat...

Well more precisely I'm allergic to most antibiotics, and I have a tale that melds the two.

A little over two weeks ago I finished reading a very good book called "Eating Animals" By Jonathan Safran foer. You think you know....but trust me, you don't. You want to stop reading it but you can't because it is so well done. Now I am not the kind of person that would ever get all militant over vegetarianism/vegan....ism, I would not judge another person if they wish to eat meat....by all means eat meat. Though if you read that book, and could still eat meat, you like meat.

What I read so disturbed me that for the first time in my life I decided I would try and be a vegetarian. Not vegan....baby steps. And so I did and did very well for two weeks. At the end of those two weeks, I had hit a goal in my weight (Got some more lb's to strip off) and decided to treat myself with my favorite meal from my favorite local Chinese restaurant. This meal contains chicken....what's it going to hurt?

A lot as it turns out. In the book Jonathan tells us how all factory farmed meat (don't kid yourself with the free range label, still a free range factory farm), all of our meat is factory farmed, the animals are fed large doses of antibiotics with every meal. This causes all kinds of problems, such as antibiotic resistant strains of diseases, such as H1N1. That came from a factory farm in one of the Carolinas, pig farm of course. I knew this, but I always thought it couldn't be that much or I would have more problems....right?

Now I think you might know where I am going with this. Since I had been off of all meat for two weeks all of the antibiotics worked there way out of my system, as soon as I ate that Mongolian chicken (a meal I have had hundreds of times without reaction) I got a fairly bad allergic reaction. Huh! Big fiery red itchy patches on my legs, arms and on my face...to a lesser degree.

Now everyone in unison....EEEEWWW! I think how has this been affecting me eating this crap I'm allergic to all my life? I have been in a better mood, but I don't know if this is the cause. And think, what has it been doing to you to be on antibiotics everyday of your life!
